Apple iPhone 18 Pro Launched in India at Rs. 1,64,900: Specs, Price and What to Know

Four storage tiers, two sizes, and a top-end price that starts with a three.

The iPhone 18 Pro is listed at Rs. 1,64,900 for 256GB, Rs. 1,89,900 for 512GB, Rs. 2,39,900 for 1TB and Rs. 3,14,900 for 2TB. The 6.9-inch iPhone 18 Pro Max runs from Rs. 1,79,900 to Rs. 3,29,900 across the same four tiers. Pre-orders opened at 5:30pm on 12 September and deliveries begin on 18 September, in Burgundy, Glacier, Silver and Black.

Those are launch prices and we are labelling them as such. The phone has not reached a single buyer yet, so there is no street price to quote and nobody should pretend otherwise.

A 2nm chip and a camera that can close its own aperture.

Two things here are real engineering rather than marketing cadence. The first is the A20 Pro, the first consumer phone chip built on TSMC's 2nm N2 process, which uses gate-all-around transistors in place of the FinFETs that have carried phones since the mid-2010s. TSMC's published figures put N2 at up to 35 percent lower power than the 3nm process running the iPhone 16 and 17 Pro at matched performance. That is a foundry claim, not a phone claim, and the difference matters: what a process can do and what a phone does with it are separated by a thermal budget and a display.

The second is the variable aperture on the 48MP main camera, which moves between roughly f/1.5 and f/4.0. Phones have had fixed apertures forever, which is why depth of field on a phone is a software decision. A physical iris makes it an optical one again: wide open for a dark restaurant, stopped down when you want a whole group in focus rather than a convincing blur. It is a moving part in a sealed phone, which is exactly why almost nobody ships it.

The zoom deserves its own line. All three rear cameras are 48MP, including the 4x periscope, which means the 8x setting is a crop from a full-resolution sensor rather than an upscale from a small one. Three cameras that are all actually cameras is not a given at any price; it is worth saying plainly when it happens.

You keep the SIM tray. You also keep the smaller battery.

Apple has gone eSIM-only for the 18 Pro in a list of markets that includes the United States, Japan, Canada and most of the Gulf. India is not on that list, so the phone sold here retains a physical nano-SIM slot. For a country where people still swap carriers by walking into a shop, that is straightforwardly good news.

It has a cost, and the cost is measurable. Regulatory filings tie the SIM-tray version to a 4,056mAh cell and the eSIM-only version to 4,288mAh: about 232mAh, or five-and-a-half percent, of battery living where the tray sits. Apple rates the 18 Pro at up to 34 hours of video playback against 33 on the 17 Pro. Read that one-hour improvement as the optimistic end of the range for a phone sold here, and read a 2nm process buying one hour as the more interesting fact in the paragraph.

At Rs. 1,64,900 the competition is not only other phones.

Inside Android, the comparison that matters is the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, which is the other phone in India that asks you to spend like this and mostly earns it. A tier below, the Galaxy S26 and the iQOO 15R both make the argument that flagship silicon stopped needing a six-figure price some time ago. Today we also published a Xiaomi 17 review, and the arithmetic there is uncomfortable for everyone: a 6.3-inch flagship with a larger battery, a published support window running to 2032 and a Leica-tuned triple camera, at roughly half this money.

None of that makes the iPhone 18 Pro a bad phone. It makes it an expensive one whose most persuasive arguments - iOS 27, the resale floor, the camera pipeline, the fact that it will still get updates when the buyer has forgotten what they paid - are the arguments a spec sheet is worst at carrying.

Outside Android, the comparison is with the iPhone 17 Pro, which is still an extremely good phone and no longer the newest one. If your upgrade cycle is elastic, that is where the value has quietly moved.

Buy it for the cameras and the silicon. Do not buy it for the battery number.
