Xiaomi Redmi 17 5G Launched in India at Rs. 23,999: Specs, Price and What to Know

7900mAh is the entire pitch, and it is a good one.

There is no ambiguity about what this phone is for. 7900mAh is a genuinely large cell, and Xiaomi has paired it with 45W charging rated at a full top-up in about 96 minutes. That combination matters: plenty of big-battery phones in India ship with 30W or 33W charging, which turns a large cell into a long wait. The Redmi 17 5G avoids that trap.

It also does 22.5W wired reverse charging, so it can act as a power bank for earbuds or a second phone. On specifications, this is one of the more complete endurance packages you can buy right now.

The screen and the chipset are priced like a cheaper phone.

Here is where the Redmi 17 5G gets harder to defend. The display is 6.9 inches and runs at 120Hz, which sounds right, but the resolution is 1600 x 720. That is HD+ stretched across a very large panel, and it works out to roughly 254 pixels per inch. At Rs. 23,999, essentially every rival is FHD+, and most are AMOLED.

The Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 is a 4nm part, which helps efficiency, but it is Qualcomm's entry tier. Paired with LPDDR4X memory and UFS 2.2 storage, this is a spec sheet you would expect nearer Rs. 15,000 than Rs. 24,000. At 232g, it is also heavy.

Who should actually consider it.

If your single priority is going two days without a charger and you genuinely do not care about screen sharpness or gaming performance, the Redmi 17 5G makes sense. The IP64 rating, Gorilla Glass 7i, headphone jack and microSD slot round it out as a practical, hard-wearing device.

For most buyers at Rs. 23,999, though, the maths is awkward. That budget buys an FHD+ AMOLED screen and a considerably stronger chipset elsewhere, and several phones a full band cheaper get you to 7000mAh with fewer compromises.
