Seven phones earn a place below, ranked on the panel itself and priced against live listings on 14 September 2026. The Motorola Edge 70 Fusion wins, and the Tecno Pova Slim is the one that makes the rest of the band look expensive. 00 - How To Read A Display Spec Three numbers, in the order they actually matter. Resolution first. A 6.8-inch panel at 1080 x 2400 works out to about 390 pixels per inch. The same size at 1280 x 2800 gives you about 450. That is the difference you notice on text, on app icons, on the edges of everything, every time you unlock the phone. It is also the spec brands mention last. Refresh second. 120Hz is now the floor and 144Hz is the step up. The jump from 60Hz to 120Hz was transformative; the jump from 120Hz to 144Hz is real but modest. Do not pay a premium for it alone. Brightness last, and read it carefully. A "6,500 nits" claim is an HDR highlight peak measured on a fraction of the panel. The number worth having is the high-brightness-mode figure, which is what the screen does when you step into May sunlight. Treat big peak numbers as a signal that a panel will cope outdoors, not as a description of how it runs while you scroll. Why this guide starts at Rs. 20,000 We tested the band below it first. Of the phones whose launch price put them between Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 20,000 with a sharp AMOLED, almost none could still be confirmed inside that band at two live listings: 2026 street inflation has carried them out of it. The good screens moved up. So did the guide. 01 - The Winner Motorola Edge 70 Fusion - Rs. 27,500 to Rs. 32,000 Why it wins: 1272 x 2772 across 6.78 inches, which is about 449 ppi, at 144Hz, with a 5,200-nit HDR peak and Gorilla Glass 7i over the top. It is the only phone here that leads on resolution and refresh at the same time, and it does not ask you to give up anything else to get it: 7,000mAh, 68W charging, IP68 and IP69, five years of security patches. Who it suits: anyone who wants the best screen in the band without building the rest of their phone around that choice. The catch: it is the most expensive entry here, and it has drifted above its Rs. 26,999 launch price rather than below it. Read our full Motorola Edge 70 Fusion review. 02 - The Value Pick Tecno Pova Slim - about Rs. 20,000 Why it earned the spot: 1260 x 2800 on a curved 6.78-inch panel, about 440 ppi, running at 144Hz with a 4,500-nit peak - in a body that is 5.95mm thick and 156g. Read that again. It is a 1.5K 144Hz screen at the bottom of the band, wrapped in the slimmest phone most people will have held. On display refresh our index puts it better than 91% of the market, which is the same tier as phones costing Rs. 8,000 more. Who it suits: anyone whose first filter is the screen and whose second is the price. The catch: the compromises are elsewhere and they are real - a 5,160mAh battery, no OIS, IP64 rather than IP68, and one year of OS updates, which is the shortest promise in this guide by a distance. Read our full Tecno Pova Slim review. 03 realme Narzo Power - Rs. 28,000 to Rs. 30,000 Why it earned the spot: the sharpest panel in the guide on paper - 1280 x 2800 at about 453 ppi, 144Hz, with a 6,500-nit peak claim and Gorilla Glass 7i. And then it does something absurd underneath: a 10,001mAh battery. A 1.5K 144Hz screen usually comes with an endurance apology attached. This one comes with the opposite. Who it suits: the buyer who wants a great screen and refuses to think about charging. The catch: it launched at Rs. 27,999 and current listings sit around Rs. 30,000, so it is pressing against the top of the band, and a battery that size does not make for a light phone. Read our full realme Narzo Power review. 04 vivo T4 Pro - Rs. 26,000 to Rs. 28,000 Why it earned the spot: a quad-curved AMOLED with a 5,000-nit peak, and the most complete supporting cast in the band - it is the phone we called one of the most complete under Rs. 30,000 when we reviewed it. The panel is 1080p rather than 1.5K, which is why it sits here rather than higher, but the curve and the brightness make it feel more premium than the resolution suggests. Who it suits: buyers who want the whole phone to be good, not just the screen. The catch: at 1080 x 2392 you are paying upper-band money for a mid-band resolution. Read our full vivo T4 Pro review. 05 Ai+ Nova 2 Ultra 5G - about Rs. 21,000 Why it earned the spot: 1272 x 2772 on a 6.78-inch panel, about 450 ppi, from a brand almost nobody had heard of eighteen months ago. That is Edge 70 Fusion sharpness for roughly Rs. 7,000 less, and it is the single best resolution-per-rupee number in this guide. Who it suits: the buyer who has done the maths and does not care about the badge. The catch: a new brand means an unproven service network, and the price is climbing fast - it launched at Rs. 16,999 and has risen about 11% in the last month alone. It is the most conventional pick here and the one most likely to simply work for the next three years. Who it suits: anyone who wants a bright, dependable screen from a brand with a service centre in their city. The catch, and it is a big one: we reviewed this phone at Rs. 19,999 and it is now Rs. 25,000. The phone has not changed. Its value argument has. Read our full Redmi Note 15 SE review. 07 vivo T4R - Rs. 22,500 to Rs. 24,000 Why it earned the spot: a quad-curved 6.77-inch AMOLED with 1,300 nits in high-brightness mode, in a 7.4mm body with IP68 and IP69 sealing. The curve on all four edges is the most distinctive piece of screen design in the band, and the ingress rating is better than anything else here. Who it suits: buyers who want the phone to look expensive and survive a monsoon. The catch: 1080p, no NFC, and only two Android upgrades. Also worth knowing before you buy: this is the same hardware iQOO sells as the Z10R, so check both badges and take the cheaper one. Several phones with excellent panels were left out because their prices could not be confirmed across two live listings today, and a guide that prints an unverified price is worse than a guide with six entries. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 is the clearest example: quotes for the same 8GB + 128GB configuration ranged from about Rs. 22,000 to about Rs. 29,000 depending on where we looked, which is too wide a spread to responsibly recommend on price. We also excluded anything whose current listings put it above Rs. 30,000, however good the screen. A budget band is a claim about what a phone costs today, not what it cost at launch, and in 2026 that distinction has moved a lot of phones out of a lot of guides. 09 - The Short Version Pick by what you actually want. If the screen is the point and the budget is the constraint, the Tecno Pova Slim is remarkable value and you should go in clear-eyed about the one-year update promise.
