Buyer's Guides & Reviews

The Take Nothing about the OPPO A6 5G has changed since January except the number on it. It launched in India on 20 January 2026 at Rs. 17,999 for 4GB + 128GB. OPPO has raised that more than once since, and its list price for the same model has been Rs. 29,999 since September. Today it sells for about Rs. 27,000 at a major retailer. For that you get a genuinely tough phone, IP66, IP68 and IP69 with a 7,000mAh battery, a 45W charger in the box and stereo speakers, built around a Dimensity 6300 and a 720p screen. At this money those are the specs of a phone that costs Rs. 10,000 less. Skip it at Rs. 27,000. The same money buys a phone that also carries IP68 and IP69, with a faster chip and a sharper screen on paper. Rs. 9,000 later. Some phones age. This one inflated. In January the A6 5G was an Rs. 18,000 phone with an unusually tough body, and at Rs. 18,000 that was an easy sell. Then 2026 happened to memory prices, and OPPO raised its list in steps: by August the 4GB model was listed at Rs. 26,999, and since September at Rs. 29,999. The street has stopped just short. The listing we could confirm today asks about Rs. 27,000, about 50% over launch, and about Rs. 3,000 under OPPO's own figure. If you see this phone at Rs. 29,999, that is the maker's sticker, not the going rate, so walk on. And here is the uncomfortable part. Every spec in the table above reads like a phone built for Rs. 18,000. The chip, the 720p screen, the 4GB of memory, the 1080p video: all of it was sensible at launch. None of it got better when the price went up by half. 02 - What it gets right Give credit where it is waterproof. The A6 5G's best quality is real, and it would be unfair to bury it. IP66, IP68 and IP69 are all on OPPO's own page for this model: dust-tight, rated for submersion, and rated against high-pressure, high-temperature jets of water. If your phone lives near water, rain, a kitchen sink or a construction site, it matters. 7,000mAh with a 45W charger in the box. A large battery feeding a 720p screen and a frugal chip, with a fast charger you do not have to buy separately. Stereo speakers and a card slot. Small comforts, but welcome ones on a phone people tend to use for video. 03 - What it compromises A budget engine in a mid-range price tag. The Dimensity 6300. The same chip as the Galaxy M17e 5G and the Redmi 15C 5G, both of which sell for Rs. 18,000 or less today. At Rs. 27,000, the 3 rivals below carry chips a class above it on paper. A 720p screen. 6.75 inches at HD+ is soft, and all 3 rivals below are Full HD+ or sharper. 4GB of memory. The base model is the one at Rs. 27,000. OPPO's own table also notes that 60fps video is not supported on the 4GB model, so video tops out at 1080p and 30fps. No published update promise. OPPO India states no number of Android upgrades or years of security updates for this phone, so we print none. 04 - Against its rivals The same money, a different class. vivo T5x, Rs. 26,000 to Rs. 27,500. The direct alternative, and it matches the A6 where the A6 is strongest: IP68 and IP69, plus MIL-STD-810H drop testing. Around that it puts a Dimensity 7400 Turbo, a Full HD+ 120Hz screen and 7,200mAh at 44W, with 6GB of memory in the base model. On paper it is the better phone at the same price. Our vivo T5x review covers it. POCO X8 5G, Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 27,000. Level or cheaper, with a 1.5K AMOLED, 9,000mAh at 67W, and IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K. If battery and toughness are why you looked at the A6, this does both bigger. Our POCO X8 5G review has it. OnePlus Nord CE 6 Lite 5G, about Rs. 28,000. A Dimensity 7400 Apex, a 144Hz Full HD+ screen and 7,000mAh at 45W, with IP64 rather than IP69. Less tough, quicker on paper. Our Nord CE 6 Lite review covers it. Want this family for less? The OPPO A6s, Rs. 21,500 to Rs. 25,000, is the cheaper sibling, and our OPPO A6s review covers what it keeps and what it drops. Consider it if You find it near its old price of about Rs. 18,000 to Rs. 20,000 IP69 matters more to you than speed or screen sharpness You want the fast charger in the box Skip it if You are paying about Rs. 27,000: the vivo T5x also carries IP68 and IP69, with a stronger chip You want a sharp screen: the vivo T5x, POCO X8 and Nord CE 6 Lite are all Full HD+ or better You want to know how long it will get updates A listing asks OPPO's Rs. 29,999 The Verdict Skip, at today's price. The OPPO A6 5G is a tough, long-lasting phone that was a good buy at Rs. 18,000. It now sells for about Rs. 27,000 with the same Dimensity 6300, the same 720p screen and the same 4GB of memory, and at that money the vivo T5x matches its IP69 with a faster chip on paper and a Full HD+ screen, while the POCO X8 adds an AMOLED and a bigger battery for the same money or less. If the A6 ever returns close to its launch price, its toughness makes it worth a look again. Until then, the rating holds up better than the value. Built tough. Priced tougher.
