OPPO F35 5G Review: The Case for the Small Big Battery

The Take

At launch, we called the OPPO F35 5G hard to explain. At about Rs. 39,000 for 6GB + 128GB, still its launch price, it carries a budget-class Dimensity 6360 MAX, a Full HD+ screen and no optical stabilisation, while OPPO's own K14 Plus sells for about Rs. 33,000 with a faster chip, a sharper screen and OIS. That case is real. But there is a defence, and it is the size. The F35 puts 8,000mAh, 80W charging and IP69K into a 6.57-inch body, 159mm tall and 205g, with a 50MP autofocus selfie camera and a microSD slot. OPPO's own K14 Plus carries the same 8,000mAh capacity in a body 3.5mm taller and 1.8mm wider. Consider it if you want a smaller phone that never runs flat. Skip it if you want the most phone for the money.

01 - The prosecution

Rs. 39,000 for a budget chip.

Let us put the case against it first, because it is strong. The Dimensity 6360 MAX is a budget-class part. It pairs with UFS 2.2 storage, Wi-Fi 5 and a single speaker. The main camera has no optical stabilisation, which is the line this desk draws under Rs. 30,000, never mind Rs. 39,000. The second rear camera is a 2MP monochrome helper, not a lens you will take pictures with. And rear video stops at 1080p today; OPPO lists a higher mode as coming in a later software update, and we do not review promises.

Then there is the sibling. OPPO's K14 Plus 5G sells for about Rs. 33,000 at 1 major retailer, and for that it brings the faster Dimensity 7360 MAX, a 1.5K AMOLED at 120Hz, up to 144Hz in some games, a stabilised main camera, an IR blaster and dual speakers. On the spec sheet, the F35 loses that comparison on almost every line that involves the word "faster" or "sharper".

02 - The defence

The big battery in the small body.

Now look at the dimensions. The F35 is 159.08mm tall and 75.81mm wide, with a 6.57-inch screen. The K14 Plus is 162.6 x 77.6mm with a 6.78-inch screen. That is a few millimetres in each direction, and in the hand, in a trouser pocket, on a scooter, a few millimetres is the whole conversation. This is a mid-size phone that happens to carry 8,000mAh, and it weighs 205g doing it.

And it refills fast. 80W SUPERVOOC, with the charger in the box, against the K14 Plus's 45W. OPPO says it goes from 1% to 45% in 30 minutes. A battery that size, charged at that speed, is the kind of phone you stop thinking about, which is the best thing a battery can do.

03 - The other witnesses

A real selfie camera, a card slot, and armour.

The front camera is the F series' signature. 50MP with autofocus and a wide view, against the K14 Plus's 16MP fixed-focus. Autofocus finds your face at any distance, and the wide view fits the whole family into the frame without a stick. If you take more pictures of people than of places, this is the camera that matters.

A microSD slot. The K14 Plus and the F35 Pro have none. For anyone who keeps years of photos and video on the phone, a card is cheaper than any storage upgrade.

The ratings. IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K, which covers dust, submersion and hot high-pressure jets. That is the same complete set as the F35 Pro and the K14 Plus, on the smaller body.

04 - The verdict on the defence

A good argument, at the wrong price.

The defence holds on its own terms: there is a real buyer for a compact, tough, 8,000mAh phone with fast charging and a good selfie camera. It just does not hold at Rs. 39,000. The F35 still sells at its launch price, and at that money it is competing with phones that bring faster chips or stabilised cameras, and in the Redmi's case a written update promise. OPPO publishes none for the F35. It also has no NFC, so there is no tapping to pay at the counter.

05 - Against the market

What else Rs. 39,000 buys.

Base models, live listings on 29 October 2026
4 phones, about Rs. 33,000 to Rs. 39,000
OPPO F35 5G, about Rs. 39,0006GB + 128GB; Dimensity 6360 MAX; 8,000mAh, 80W; 6.57-inch FHD+ AMOLED; no OIS; 50MP autofocus selfie; microSD; 205g
vivo S2 FE 5G, about Rs. 39,0006GB + 128GB; 10,000mAh, 44W; IP68 and IP69; no ultra-wide; no NFC; no update policy published
Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G, about Rs. 37,0008GB + 128GB; Snapdragon 6s Gen 4; 9,000mAh, 67W; 50MP OIS + 8MP ultra-wide; 4 years of OS updates, 6 years of security; 226g
OPPO K14 Plus 5G, about Rs. 33,0006GB + 128GB; Dimensity 7360 MAX; 8,000mAh, 45W; 1.5K AMOLED, 120Hz (144Hz in some games); 50MP OIS; 16MP selfie; 207g

OPPO K14 Plus 5G, about Rs. 33,000. The sibling that makes the F35 hard to buy. Faster chip, sharper screen, a stabilised camera, the same 8,000mAh and the same 4 ratings, for about Rs. 6,000 less at 1 major retailer today. It gives up the 50MP autofocus selfie camera, the 80W charging, the microSD slot and about 3.5mm of height. Our OPPO K14 Plus 5G review covers it.

Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G, about Rs. 37,000. About Rs. 2,000 less, with 8GB of RAM in its base model, a stabilised main camera with an ultra-wide, an even bigger 9,000mAh battery at 67W, and a written promise of 4 years of OS updates and 6 years of security. It is also the heavier phone by about 21g. Our Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G review has the rest.

vivo S2 FE 5G, about Rs. 39,000. The same money for 10,000mAh, charged at a slower 44W, with IP68 and IP69. Like the F35, it skips NFC. If battery size is the whole brief, it is the bigger tank; if size in the hand is, the F35 is the smaller phone. Our vivo S2 FE 5G review weighs it.

Consider it if
  • You want 8,000mAh in a phone under 160mm tall
  • Selfies and group shots matter more than the rear camera
  • You want a microSD slot alongside a big battery and fast charging
  • Your phone gets wet, dusty or dropped
  • You want the fastest phone at this money: this is a budget-class chip
  • You want a stabilised main camera
  • You pay by tapping your phone: there is no NFC
  • You want a written update promise
The Verdict

Consider, if size is the brief. Otherwise skip. The OPPO F35 5G has a better defence than its spec sheet suggests: a compact, 205g body carrying 8,000mAh, 80W charging, a 50MP autofocus selfie camera, a microSD slot and the full set of water ratings. If you want a smaller phone that lasts and you will pay for the privilege, it is a coherent choice. But at about Rs. 39,000 its chip, its unstabilised camera and its missing update promise are hard to forgive, and OPPO's own K14 Plus is faster and sharper for about Rs. 6,000 less, in a slightly bigger body.

The defence rests on 3.5mm. The prosecution rests on Rs. 6,000.
