The Take

vivo has put a 10,000mAh battery in a phone that is 8.59mm thick, and it has called the result the vivo S2 FE 5G. It launched in India on 6 October 2026 at Rs. 38,999 for 6GB + 128GB and Rs. 42,999 for 8GB + 128GB. Those are launch prices: today it can only be pre-ordered, and sales open on 20 October. Around the battery sit IP68 and IP69, MIL-STD-810H, a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED and stereo speakers. The bill arrives elsewhere: a Dimensity 7300e with LPDDR4X memory, no NFC, 44W charging for a very large cell, and no published update policy. Worth a look if endurance is the whole brief. Wait for the street price before you commit.

01 - What landed

A 5-digit battery under 9mm.

10,000mAh is the number, and 8.59mm is the trick. A cell that size usually announces itself as a slab. The S2 FE carries it in a body under 9mm thick and 224g, which is heavier than a typical phone and lighter than the number suggests. vivo calls it the biggest battery it has ever shipped.

The phone around it is sturdier than the price usually buys. IP68 and IP69 cover dust, submersion and high-pressure water jets, and vivo adds MIL-STD-810H across 5 tests: heat, cold, rain, sand and dust, and shock. The screen is a 6.83-inch AMOLED at 2800 x 1260 and up to 120Hz, rated at 2,000 nits in high brightness mode. The speakers are stereo.

The name is new. The phone is not quite. vivo's own India material describes this phone as the vivo V80 Lite 5G, marketed as the S2 FE here. It is a different phone from the vivo S2 5G, which uses a different chip, and from the vivo V80 that launched on the same day.

02 - What it costs you

The battery is premium. The rest is priced like a battery.

The chip is the compromise to read first. The Dimensity 7300e is a 6nm part paired here with LPDDR4X memory and UFS 3.1 storage. It is a sensible everyday combination rather than a fast one, and at Rs. 38,999 the rivals below offer more on this row.

44W for 10,000mAh is a slow refill. vivo does not publish a full-charge time, but the arithmetic is simple: twice the battery of an ordinary phone at an ordinary charging speed means a long time on the cable. A battery you charge every 2 days forgives that. A battery you top up before leaving does not.

No NFC, and no promise. There is no tap-to-pay on this phone, and no update will add it. vivo has published no OS upgrade or security update commitment for the S2 FE either, so we print none; check before you buy if you keep phones for years. vivo also does not publish a video resolution, so we do not quote one.

Launch price, not street price

The S2 FE cannot be bought outright until 20 October. Rs. 38,999 and Rs. 42,999 are vivo's launch prices, and pre-order listings match them. We will know the real street price only once sales open, and through 2026 that figure has drifted in both directions within weeks of launch.

03 - Where it lands

Rs. 39,000 already buys a lot of battery.

OPPO F35 5G, about Rs. 39,000 for 6GB + 128GB on live listings today. It carries 8,000mAh with 80W charging and IP69K. That is 2,000mAh less than the S2 FE and close to twice the charging speed. Our OPPO F35 launch report has the detail.

Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G, about Rs. 37,000 for 8GB + 128GB: 9,000mAh, for about Rs. 2,000 less than the S2 FE's launch price with more memory. Our Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G review weighs it against its own siblings.

iQOO Z11, about Rs. 36,500 for 6GB + 128GB. It is the opposite bet, a 7,050mAh battery traded for everything else, and our iQOO Z11 review makes the case for it.

Worth a look if
  • Battery size is the first and last thing you check
  • You want IP69 and MIL-STD-810H in a thin body
  • Stereo speakers and a 1.5K AMOLED matter to you
  • You pay by tapping your phone: there is no NFC
  • You want fast top-ups: 44W is slow for 10,000mAh
  • You need a written update promise before you buy
The Verdict

Wait for 20 October. On paper the vivo S2 FE 5G carries the biggest battery of any phone on this page, in a body thinner and tougher than that battery should allow. But at its Rs. 38,999 launch price it competes with phones that pair a slightly smaller cell with a stronger chip, faster charging or more memory, and it gives up NFC and any published update promise to get there. If the first street price lands below the launch figure, the argument changes. Until then, it is a battery with a phone attached. It went on sale at its launch price, and our vivo S2 FE 5G review weighs it against today's rivals.

10,000mAh, 8.59mm, and 2 IP ratings. Everything else is waiting for a price.

How we priced and checked this

The S2 FE prices are vivo's launch prices for each variant, matched by pre-order listings at 2 major Indian retailers on 14 October 2026; it has no street price yet. Rival prices are live listings for each phone's base model, checked the same day. Specifications are confirmed against at least 2 independent sources each, led by vivo India's own specification page. Where sources disagreed or only one source spoke, such as the Wi-Fi generation, an IR blaster and the update policy, we left the claim out. This is a launch report based on published specification, not hands-on testing: we have not held this phone.
