The Redmi 15C 5G is the original that the Redmi 17C 5G was copied from: the same Dimensity 6300, the same 6.9-inch 120Hz screen, the same 6,000mAh battery with a 33W charger in the box, the same 211g. It launched in India on 3 December 2025 at Rs. 12,499 for 4GB + 128GB. Xiaomi has raised its list price since, and its own store asks Rs. 18,499 today, while it sells for about Rs. 17,500 at a major retailer. That is about Rs. 3,500 under its own re-release, and about Rs. 5,000 over its own launch. At that price it is a sound phone in a crowded aisle, and 3 rivals at about the same money each do something better. Consider it below Rs. 16,000. At Rs. 17,500, look one shelf over first.

Rs. 12,499 in December. About Rs. 17,500 now.
This phone is a small lesson in how 2026 treated budget phones. Memory and storage got dearer through the year, and makers passed it on. Xiaomi raised the Redmi 15C 5G's list price more than once; today its own store asks Rs. 18,499 for the 4GB + 128GB, about 48% over launch. The street has followed most of the way. Live listings put it at about Rs. 17,500 today, about 40% over its launch price, for a phone that has not changed.
That is not a scandal. It is the market. But it changes who this phone is for. At Rs. 12,499 the 15C 5G was an easy recommendation: a huge screen, a big battery and a fast charger in the box for very little. At Rs. 17,500 it is competing with phones that were never meant to be its rivals, and some of them have more to offer.
One shopping note. Listings for this phone move around, and the one we could confirm today is not necessarily the lowest you will find. If you see it under Rs. 16,000 for the 4GB + 128GB from a seller you trust, the case for it gets much stronger.
The 17C costs more for a newer Android.
Our Redmi 17C 5G review found Xiaomi's India spec pages for the 2 phones matching row for row: chip, screen, battery, charger, cameras, IP rating, dimensions, weight. The 17C starts on HyperOS 3 and Android 16 where this one started on HyperOS 2 and Android 15. Both carry the same promise of 2 years of OS updates and 4 years of security, so the 17C's software finish line sits further out. That, and a vegan-leather option in Coffee Brew, is what the extra money buys on paper.
Today that difference is about Rs. 3,500. If you were choosing between the 2 Redmis, this is the one to buy.
A big screen, a big battery, and the charger in the box.
6.9 inches at 120Hz. It is a 720p panel, about 254ppi, so it is not sharp, but it is very large and refreshes at up to 120Hz. For video, reading and anyone whose eyes prefer bigger text, that size is the point.
6,000mAh with a 33W charger included. The charger in the box sounds small and is not: not every phone at this price includes one, and a fast adapter is a few hundred rupees and a trip you do not have to make. It can also top up a pair of earbuds over the cable at 10W.
The useful extras. IP64 against dust and splashes, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a memory card slot up to 1TB, and a side fingerprint reader. A body 7.99mm thin, which is slim for a phone this large.
Short software support, and a camera with no backup.
2 years of OS updates and 4 years of security. That is the weakest promise on this page. The Samsungs nearby offer 6 and 6; the POCO offers 4 years of OS updates and 6 of security. For a phone people tend to keep for 3 or 4 years, that gap matters more than any spec in the table.
1 real camera. A 50MP main with no stabilisation listed, and a second lens Xiaomi lists only as auxiliary, with no figures. No ultra-wide. Video tops out at 1080p and 30fps.
A soft screen. 720p stretched over 6.9 inches is the trade for that size at this money. On paper, that is soft for reading.
3 phones at about the same money, each better at something.
POCO M8x 5G, about Rs. 18,000. The one to check first. A Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, 7,900mAh at 45W, IP64 and 4 years of OS updates with 6 of security, against the Redmi's 2 and 4. Our POCO M8x 5G review covers it.
Samsung Galaxy M17 5G, Rs. 17,500 to Rs. 19,000. A Full HD+ AMOLED at 90Hz, an Exynos 1330 and Samsung's 6 OS upgrades with 6 years of security, against a smaller 5,000mAh battery at 25W. If the screen and the update promise matter more than size, this is the better phone. Our Galaxy M17 5G review has it.
Samsung Galaxy M17e 5G, Rs. 16,000 to Rs. 18,000. The closest match on paper: the same Dimensity 6300, 6,000mAh and a 120Hz HD+ LCD, with slower 25W charging and IP54, but the 6-and-6 update promise. Our Galaxy M17e 5G review covers it.
- You find it under about Rs. 16,000 for 4GB + 128GB
- Screen size beats sharpness for you
- You want a fast charger in the box and a headphone jack
- You are choosing between the 2 Redmis: this one is cheaper for the same hardware
- You keep phones 4 years or more: the Samsungs promise far longer support
- Battery life is the brief: the POCO M8x carries 7,900mAh
- You want an AMOLED or an ultra-wide camera
Consider, below Rs. 16,000. The Redmi 15C 5G is the same phone it was at launch: a big 120Hz screen, a 6,000mAh battery, a 33W charger in the box and a headphone jack. What changed is the price, up about 40% to about Rs. 17,500, and at that figure the POCO M8x's bigger battery and longer support, or the Galaxy M17's AMOLED and 6-year promise, are the better buys for little more. Below Rs. 16,000 it earns its place again. And if the choice is between this and the Redmi 17C, buy this one.
The phone stayed the same. The aisle around it got better.
