Samsung Galaxy A07 5G Review: The Street Undercuts Samsung

The Take

The Samsung Galaxy A07 5G launched in India on 5 February at Rs. 15,999 for 4GB + 128GB. Samsung has raised that price several times since, and its own India store now asks Rs. 20,999. The shops have followed only part of the way: live listings sit between Rs. 16,500 and Rs. 20,000, so the street is up to Rs. 4,500 under the maker. What you get for that is a 6,000mAh battery, a 120Hz HD+ LCD, a headphone jack and Samsung's promise of 6 Android upgrades and 6 years of security updates, to January 2032. What you give up is screen sharpness, a stabilised camera and a charger in the box. It is also the same phone as the Galaxy M17e 5G. Consider it for the update promise, under whichever badge is cheaper on the day.

01 - The price

The maker kept raising it. The shops lagged behind.

Samsung launched the 4GB + 128GB at Rs. 15,999. Through 2026 it raised the list in steps, and today Samsung's own India store shows Rs. 20,999.

The open market followed only part of the way. Live listings for the same 4GB + 128GB sit between Rs. 16,500 and Rs. 20,000, the low end about Rs. 500 over the launch price. So the most useful sentence in this review is a shopping instruction: the price on Samsung's own page is not the price of this phone. If a listing asks more than about Rs. 20,000 for the 4GB model, keep looking.

02 - The twin

A07 5G, M17e 5G. The same phone.

Samsung sells this hardware under 2 names. The Galaxy M17e 5G, launched in March, carries the model number SM-M076B; this is SM-A076B. Samsung's India pages for the 2 agree on the chip, screen, battery, cameras, IP rating and even the 8.2mm and 199g. The M17e launched cheaper, and today the 2 overlap: the M17e's 4GB + 128GB sits at Rs. 16,000 to Rs. 18,000. Our Galaxy M17e 5G review covers the same phone under its other badge. Buy whichever is cheaper on the day, in the colour you like: the A07 5G comes in Black, Light Violet and Light Green.

03 - What it gets right

The calendar, the battery, the jack.

6 Android upgrades and 6 years of security updates. Samsung's India page puts a date on it: security updates until 31 January 2032. The phone launched on Android 16, so on paper it should reach Android 22. No phone on this page promises more Android upgrades, and Samsung is the only maker here that puts an end date in writing. That is the reason to choose this phone for a parent, a first-time user, or anyone who buys once and keeps it until it breaks.

6,000mAh. Paired with a 720p panel and the frugal Dimensity 6300, a cell this size has little to feed. It charges at 25W, which is unhurried, and there is no charger in the box, so budget for one if you do not already own a fast USB-C adapter.

The small survivors. A 3.5mm headphone jack. IP54 against splashes and dust. A side fingerprint reader. A memory card slot, though it shares space with the second SIM.

04 - What it compromises

A soft screen and a lone camera.

HD+ on 6.7 inches. 720 x 1600 is a soft resolution for a screen this size, and it is an LCD rather than an AMOLED. 120Hz makes scrolling smooth. It does not make text sharp.

A single camera that counts. The 50MP main camera has autofocus but no optical stabilisation, and the 2MP second sensor only measures depth. There is no ultra-wide. Video tops out at 1080p at 30fps. We have not used the phone, so we make no claim about its pictures, only about the hardware.

No NFC, a single speaker. No tapping to pay at the counter, and a single speaker for videos.

05 - The rivals

What else Rs. 17,000 buys.

Galaxy M17 5G, Rs. 17,500 to Rs. 19,0004GB + 128GB; Full HD+ AMOLED 90Hz; 5,000mAh, 25W; OIS and ultra-wide; no headphone jack; 6 Android upgrades, 6 years of security
Redmi 15A 5G, Rs. 14,500 to Rs. 16,5004GB + 64GB; 6.9-inch 720p LCD 120Hz; 6,300mAh, 15W; headphone jack; 4 years of OS updates, 6 years of security

Galaxy M17e 5G, Rs. 16,000 to Rs. 18,000. The twin. Same hardware, same promise, different colours. Buy whichever is cheaper on the day.

Galaxy F70e 5G, Rs. 15,500 to Rs. 17,000. Check this one before you pay. It runs the same chip with the same 6,000mAh battery, 720p screen and 6-year promise, and today it lists lower than either the A07 5G or the M17e. Our Galaxy F70e 5G review covers it.

Galaxy M17 5G, Rs. 17,500 to Rs. 19,000. The step up, and often for no more money. A Full HD+ AMOLED, a stabilised main camera with an ultra-wide and the same 6-year promise, against a smaller 5,000mAh battery and no headphone jack. If you look at the screen more than you listen through a wire, this is the better Samsung. Our Galaxy M17 5G review has it.

Redmi 15A 5G, Rs. 14,500 to Rs. 16,500. Cheaper, with a bigger 6,300mAh battery and a jack, but slower 15W charging, half the storage in its base model, and 4 years of OS updates against 6 upgrades. Our Redmi 15A 5G review covers it.

Consider it if
  • You keep a phone for 5 years or more, or are buying for someone who does
  • You want a big battery and a headphone jack on a Samsung
  • You find it at or below the M17e's price on the day
  • You care what the screen looks like: the Galaxy M17 5G has a Full HD+ AMOLED
  • You want a stabilised camera or an ultra-wide
  • You pay by tapping your phone: there is no NFC
  • A listing asks Samsung's own Rs. 20,999: the street is cheaper
The Verdict

Consider, at the street price, under the cheaper badge. The Galaxy A07 5G is a plain phone with a single outstanding quality: Samsung's promise of updates to January 2032. Around it sit a 6,000mAh battery, a headphone jack and a soft HD+ LCD. Buy it, or its M17e twin, if longevity is the brief and the screen is not. Pay the street price, which today runs up to Rs. 4,500 under Samsung's own. And if you can stretch to the Galaxy M17 5G, its AMOLED and stabilised camera are the better phone for about the same money on a good day.

Samsung asks Rs. 20,999. The street asks less. Listen to the street.
