Motorola Edge 70 Review: Thinner Than a Pencil, Still 5,000mAh

The Take

The Motorola Edge 70 is 5.99mm thick and weighs 159g, and Motorola still fitted it with a 5,000mAh battery, 68W charging, wireless charging, IP68 and IP69, a 4,500-nit pOLED and 3 cameras that are all 50MP. On our index, no phone we track on sale in India is easier to hold in one hand. The catch is not the phone, it is availability: it launched at Rs. 29,999 and today only third-party sellers at one major retailer have it, from Rs. 31,920. Buy it if thin and light is what you want and you can find it from a reliable seller. If battery matters more, look elsewhere.

Motorola Edge 70

A Motorola Edge 70 is thinner than the pencil you would use to measure it.

That is not a figure of speech. At 5.99mm, this is one of the slimmest phones sold in India, and at 159g it is lighter than most phones with smaller screens. Thin phones usually ask you to give something up in return: a small battery, slow charging, no water protection, a cheap camera. What makes the Edge 70 worth a full review is how little it gives up.

Motorola launched it in India on 15 December 2025 at Rs. 29,999, in one version, 8GB + 256GB. It went on sale on 23 December. 10 months later the picture has changed: the original launch retailer's listings no longer load, 2 other major chains do not stock it, and the listings we could order from today are third-party sellers on 1 major retailer, starting at Rs. 31,920. We confirmed that listing directly. With only one retailer, we are not printing a price band.

01 - What it gets right

A 6mm phone that did not skip the hard parts.

Start with the battery, because that is where thin phones usually fail. The Edge 70 sold in India carries 5,000mAh on a silicon-carbon cell, and that is not the number most international coverage prints. The global model has 4,800mAh. India gets the bigger battery in the same 5.99mm body, which is the reverse of the usual India-variant story, and worth knowing if you are reading reviews written abroad.

Then everything Motorola kept that a thin phone would normally drop. 68W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. IP68 and IP69 for immersion and high-pressure water, plus a MIL-STD-810H rating. A 6.7-inch 10-bit pOLED rated to 4,500 nits peak, behind Gorilla Glass 7i. Stereo speakers, NFC and Wi-Fi 6E. Any one of those is a reason a maker might have added a millimetre. The Edge 70 has all of them and stays under 6mm.

The cameras are well chosen. The main 50MP sensor has optical stabilisation, and the second rear camera is a full 50MP ultra-wide with autofocus, which also lets it focus close for macro shots. The selfie camera is 50MP too, which on our index puts it ahead of 93% of phones on sale. Of the 4 circles on the camera island, 2 are cameras; the others are a flash and an ambient light sensor, and Motorola's spec sheet says exactly that.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 with LPDDR5X memory and UFS 3.1 storage is a proper mid-range platform rather than a budget chip in a nice body.

Scored from published specifications against the 204 phones we have verified on sale in India as of 4 October 2026. A verified subset, not the whole market; PublicBuy has not physically tested these devices.

Put together, it is better specified than 76% of the 204 phones we track on sale in India.

02 - What it gives up

Physics gets paid somewhere.

Battery, relative to the market. 5,000mAh is good for a phone this thin and modest for a phone at this price. On our index it is larger than only 22% of phones on sale in India, because the market has moved to 7,000mAh and beyond. 68W charging helps a great deal, but if you are away from a charger all day, a thicker phone will last longer.

Updates. Motorola India commits to 3 Android upgrades and 4 years of security patches. Some international coverage quotes a longer policy for the global model; that is not the commitment for the phone sold here.

No telephoto. There is no zoom lens, so anything beyond about 2x is a crop from the main camera.

Heat and sound, as other reviewers report. We have not tested the phone. One published review reports that it slows down under long, heavy loads, which is to be expected in a body this thin, and several describe the speakers as average for the price.

Buying it today

The Edge 70 launched at Rs. 29,999. Today the listings we could order from are third-party sellers on one major retailer, starting at Rs. 31,920, with the listing's printed MRP at Rs. 34,999. Check the seller's ratings and that the box is the India model (5,000mAh, 8GB + 256GB) before you pay.

03 - The rivals

What thinness costs, measured against its own family.

The obvious alternative is Motorola's own Edge 70 Fusion, at about Rs. 29,500 at one major retailer today. It has a 7,000mAh battery, IP68 and IP69, and is a more conventional, heavier phone. That is the clear choice if battery comes first; our Edge 70 Fusion review covers it in full.

A step up, at Rs. 34,999, the vivo T5 5G fits a 7,050mAh battery into 7.99mm and 199g. It is 2mm thicker and 40g heavier than the Edge 70, and holds about 40% more battery. Read our vivo T5 5G review if that trade sounds better. For the wider field around this price, our guide to the best phones between Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 50,000 ranks the options.

Buy the Edge 70 if
  • You want the thinnest, lightest phone you can hold in one hand
  • You still want water resistance, wireless charging and stereo speakers
  • You take selfies or video calls often: the 50MP front camera is excellent on paper
  • Battery life is your first concern
  • You want a long update promise
  • You would rather buy from a major retailer directly than from a third-party seller
The Verdict

Buy it, if you can find it from a reliable seller. The Motorola Edge 70 is a real engineering achievement: 5.99mm, 159g, and still a 5,000mAh battery, 68W wired and 15W wireless charging, IP68 and IP69, a 4,500-nit pOLED, stereo speakers and 3 50MP cameras. Its compromises are honest ones: a battery smaller than most phones at its price, 3 Android upgrades, and no telephoto. The bigger problem is supply. It launched at Rs. 29,999 and is now sold only by third-party sellers on one major retailer, from Rs. 31,920. If thinness is what you want, nothing else on sale in India does it this well. If it is not, the Edge 70 Fusion and the vivo T5 give you much more battery. Judged on published specification, not on a hands-on test.

Better specified than 76% of the 204 phones we track on sale in India. Easier to hold in one hand than any other phone we rate, and still in the top quarter overall.
