Samsung Galaxy S26 FE Launched in India at Rs. 79,999: Specs, Price and What to Know

Just Launched

Samsung has brought the Galaxy S26 FE to India at Rs. 79,999, and it arrives in exactly one configuration: 8GB of memory with 256GB of storage. The rest of the world can buy a 128GB version. We cannot. That single decision is what turns this launch from a story about a phone into a story about a price.

Samsung Galaxy S26 FE in Pistachio, front and back

The letters stand for Fan Edition, and for most of the last decade they have been shorthand for a deal: flagship parts, one or two sensible cuts, a number that did not make you wince. The Galaxy S26 FE keeps the parts and the cuts. The number has been quietly doing something else.

Last year's Galaxy S25 FE launched here at Rs. 59,999 for 8GB and 128GB, with the 256GB version at Rs. 65,999. The Galaxy S26 FE's 256GB is Rs. 79,999. Matched storage for matched storage, that is Rs. 14,000 more, a 21% rise in 12 months. Those are both launch prices, which is the only fair way to compare them; the S25 FE has since settled below its own, as year-old phones do, and the S26 FE has not had time to. And because India does not get the 128GB at all, a buyer who would have spent Rs. 59,999 on the entry S25 FE now finds the cheapest door into the line has moved up by Rs. 20,000.

None of which makes it a bad phone. It makes it a differently positioned one, and that is worth saying plainly before the spec sheet does its usual work of making everything sound inevitable.

01 - What is genuinely good here

A telephoto lens, and a support window that runs to 2033.

Two things on this sheet are rarer than they look.

The first is the 8MP 3x telephoto with its own stabilisation. Optical zoom has been quietly disappearing from phones below the very top of the market, replaced by a crop of the main sensor and a confident marketing name. A real telephoto module, stabilised, sitting alongside a stabilised 50MP main and a 12MP ultra-wide, is 3 lenses that each do a different job. There is no 2MP passenger in this camera island.

The second is the software commitment: seven OS upgrades and 7 years of security patches, which carries this phone into 2033. Update policies are a specification, and this is among the longest anyone attaches to a device at any price. A buyer who keeps a phone 5 years, and plenty here do, is being offered something the spec sheet does not usually cost out.

Add IP68, Gorilla Glass Victus+ on both faces, and 193 grams at 7.4mm, and the physical object is not in question. Samsung has built this well.

02 - Where the compromises sit

4,900mAh, 45W, and an Exynos that has been here before.

The battery is 4,900mAh with 45W wired charging, which Samsung rates at 69% in half an hour. That is a perfectly respectable combination and it is also, at Rs. 79,999, the part of the sheet doing the least work. Phones at a third of this price now ship 7,000mAh cells. Capacity is not everything and a 3nm chip with a 1080p panel is efficient in ways a raw number hides, but nobody is buying this for endurance.

The Exynos 2500 is the more interesting compromise. It is a 3nm part and a capable one, and it is also not new: it is the silicon from the earlier Galaxy S26 generation, arriving here in the Fan Edition the way it usually does. That is the FE bargain working as designed. It is worth knowing you are buying last season's flagship processor rather than this season's, because that is precisely the trade the badge has always described.

The display is 1080p across 6.7 inches. Sharp enough, bright enough at 1,900 nits peak, and a step below the 1440p panels further up the range. Again: the FE trade, honestly made.

Price and availability

The Galaxy S26 FE went on sale in India on 18 September 2026 at Rs. 79,999 for the only variant sold here, 8GB with 256GB. Open-market listings today sit at about Rs. 80,000, so there is no street discount yet to soften the launch figure. Samsung is running launch offers including exchange bonuses and card cashback, which move the effective price rather than the price.

03 - Who should care

The buyer this is for, and the one it is not.

If you want a compact-ish, properly built Samsung with a real zoom lens and a decade of updates, and you are shopping at Rs. 80,000 anyway, the S26 FE is a coherent answer. The camera set is honest, the software promise is the longest in the business, and nothing here is a trick. The phone it is most often cross-shopped against carries the same seven-year promise for Rs. 10,000 more: Galaxy S26 FE vs Google Pixel 11.

If you came to the FE line because it used to be where Samsung flagship hardware became affordable, the position has moved. At Rs. 79,999 this is no longer the sensible cousin of the flagship. It is priced inside the flagship conversation, and it should be judged there, against phones with newer silicon and sharper panels, rather than graded on a curve for the letters on the box.

The letters still say Fan Edition. The price has stopped agreeing with them.

For context on where this sits, our review of the Galaxy S26 covers the model directly above it, and the Galaxy S25 FE review is the phone this one replaces. If Rs. 80,000 is more than you meant to spend, our guide to the best phones under Rs. 30,000 is a different conversation entirely.

Judged on published specification, not a hands-on test. A well-made phone with a genuine telephoto and the longest update promise in the market, launching Rs. 14,000 above the equivalent S25 FE and with the cheap variant withheld from India.
