POCO X8 Power vs vivo T5: Two Ways to Spend Rs. 35,000 on a Battery

The Take

Put Rs. 35,000 on the counter and two battery phones answer. The POCO X8 Power 5G brings a 10,000mAh cell and 100W charging. The vivo T5 5G brings 7,050mAh, a 144Hz curved screen, Wi-Fi 6, and a body 30g lighter and thinner. Our index cannot separate them: both are better specified than 82% of the phones on sale in India. So the decision is not which is better. It is which kind of day you have. Out all day, buy the POCO. Holding the phone all day, buy the vivo.

These two arrived in India within 2 days of each other in September, and they are aimed at the same buyer: someone who has had enough of a phone dying by dinner. They answer that buyer in opposite ways. POCO adds capacity and accepts the weight. vivo adds as much capacity as a slim phone will hold and keeps the weight down. Neither is wrong. They are 2 answers to one question, and the rest of this piece is about which answer is yours.

01 - What they cost

Rs. 1,000 apart at the door, more once you match the memory.

The vivo T5 launched on 2 September 2026 at Rs. 34,999 for 6GB with 128GB, Rs. 39,999 for 8GB with 128GB, Rs. 44,999 for 8GB with 256GB and Rs. 49,999 for 12GB with 256GB. Live listings today still sit at those figures.

The POCO X8 Power launched on 4 September at Rs. 35,999 for 8GB with 128GB and Rs. 38,999 for 8GB with 256GB. POCO sells it through one online retailer, which still lists those launch prices; one retailer is one source, so we print them as launch prices rather than as a market band.

So the cheapest way in is the vivo, by Rs. 1,000, with 2GB less RAM. Match the memory and the order flips: with 8GB and 128GB the POCO is Rs. 4,000 cheaper, and with 8GB and 256GB it is Rs. 6,000 cheaper. Neither phone takes a memory card, so pick the storage you will need in year four, not in week one.

02 - The POCO's case

42% more battery, filled at more than twice the wattage.

This is not close. 10,000mAh against 7,050mAh is about 42% more stored energy, and the POCO refills it at 100W against the vivo's 44W. Usually a bigger battery is paid for with a longer wait at the wall. Here the bigger battery is also the faster one, which is the rare case where one phone simply wins the round both phones entered.

It also lasts longer in the other sense. POCO promises four Android upgrades and 6 years of security patches; vivo promises three and five. One extra year of patches on a phone people keep is worth real money, and the index scores it plainly: software support better than 56% of rated phones against 35%.

And it is the harder-wearing of two hard-wearing phones on paper. Both carry IP68 and IP69. The POCO adds IP66 and IP69K, the steam-cleaning grade; the vivo answers with a MIL-STD-810H drop and stress rating. Call that one even.

What we are not claiming

We have not tested either phone, and we will not tell you how many hours either lasts or which chip is faster in a game. Both chipsets are 4nm parts aimed at this price, and published benchmark claims for them are the makers' own. Capacity, charging speed and update years are specifications. Endurance and smoothness are experiences, and we have not had them.

03 - The vivo's case

30 grams is the difference between a phone and a brick.

Now pick them up, on paper. The vivo weighs 199g and is 7.99mm thick. The POCO weighs 229g and is 8.65mm thick, and it is 3mm wider. Those numbers look small on a spec sheet and very large at 1am, held above your face. Our index puts the vivo at the 52nd percentile for one-handed comfort and the POCO at the 7th. That is the whole cost of the POCO's battery, written as a single bar.

The vivo spends the weight it saved on the parts you touch and look at all day. A 144Hz curved AMOLED against a flat 120Hz panel, at a resolution so close to the POCO's that sharpness is a draw. Wi-Fi 6 against the POCO's Wi-Fi 5, which is the POCO's one specification that is hard to defend in 2026 at any price. Bluetooth 5.4, an IR blaster for the television and air conditioner, and a 50MP Sony IMX882 main camera with optical stabilisation. The POCO's main camera is also stabilised, with a wider f/1.5 aperture, so call the cameras a draw on paper, too.

And 7,050mAh is not a small battery. It is a large one, in a phone that does not look or feel like it is carrying one. The vivo is the phone for someone who wants a battery that lasts a long day without changing how the phone feels in the hand.

Add it all up and the index calls it a dead heat. Both are better specified than 82% of the 205 phones we track on sale in India. Against the 44 phones in their price band, the vivo is better value than 64% and the POCO 62%, a gap too small to mean anything. When the totals tie, the shape of the bars is the answer: the POCO's sit high on endurance and low on comfort, and the vivo's are flatter all the way across.

Buy the POCO X8 Power if
  • Your phone has to last a full outdoor day, every day
  • You hate waiting at the wall; 100W against 44W
  • You keep phones 5 years or more; the extra year of patches counts
  • You want 8GB of RAM for the least money
Buy the vivo T5 if
  • You use your phone one-handed, in bed, or for hours at a time
  • You want a smoother, curved 144Hz screen
  • You have fast home Wi-Fi; Wi-Fi 6 against Wi-Fi 5
  • You use an IR remote, or your budget stops at Rs. 35,000 exactly

For the full story on each, read our POCO X8 Power review and our vivo T5 review. The phone that pushes the POCO's argument from another brand is the realme P4 Power, and if the vivo appeals but its price does not, its cheaper sibling is covered in our vivo T5x review. One band down, our battery guide for Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 30,000 shows what the same priority buys for less.

The Verdict

A tie on the totals, a clear answer for each buyer. The POCO X8 Power 5G wins on endurance outright: 42% more battery, charged at more than twice the wattage, with an extra year of updates, and it is the cheaper of the two once you match the memory. The vivo T5 5G wins on everything you feel: 30g lighter, thinner, a 144Hz curved screen, Wi-Fi 6 and an IR blaster, at the lower entry price. Buy the POCO if a dead phone is the problem you are solving. Buy the vivo if a heavy phone would be the new problem. Judged on published specification, not on a hands-on test.

Both better specified than 82% of the 205 phones we track on sale in India. POCO: 98th percentile battery, 7th one-handed. vivo: 88th and 52nd. Same total, opposite shapes. Choose the shape that fits your day.
