OPPO has spent 2 years teaching the mid-range to carry a bigger battery. The K14 Plus 5G, launched in India today from a stated Rs. 29,999, is what that idea looks like once it stops being polite: 8,000mAh, a 1.5K 144Hz AMOLED, optical stabilisation on the main camera, and an IP69K rating, in a body that still comes in at 207 grams. The bill arrives in 3 places, and one of them is a chip that simply is not there.

01 - The battery is the headline, and it is an honest one

8,000mAh is not a number this band deals in.

Most phones at Rs. 30,000 have settled around 5,500mAh to 7,000mAh and called it generosity. The K14 Plus carries 8,000mAh, and it does it without the 2 punishments that usually follow. It is 8.4mm thick and 207 grams, which is heavy but not comic, and OPPO rates the cell for 1,800 charge cycles, which is where the six-year language in its marketing comes from. That is a durability claim about the battery. It is not a promise about software, and the two get blurred deliberately.

Now read the charging figure next to it. 45W SUPERVOOC into 8,000mAh is not fast in the way 80W into 5,000mAh is fast, because the cell it has to fill is over half as large again. A big battery with ordinary charging is a trade, not a bonus, and the trade here is a phone you will charge less often but will not top up in 10 minutes before leaving the house. For most people, most days, that is the better half of the deal.

02 - Two brightness numbers, one of them useful

1,800 nits is the figure to remember.

The panel is a 6.78-inch AMOLED at 2772 x 1272, which works out to about 450 pixels per inch, with a refresh rate that steps between 60Hz, 90Hz and 120Hz and tops out at 144Hz. It also carries 2,160Hz PWM dimming, which matters if low-brightness flicker gives you headaches. At this money, that is a properly specified screen.

Which brightness number is real

OPPO's own specification page gives 1,800 nits in high-brightness mode. The 3,600 nits you will see on the banners is a local peak, measured on part of the panel with HDR content, not a level the whole screen holds. Both figures are true. Only the first one describes standing at a bus stop in May.

03 - Stabilisation at Rs. 29,999, which deserves saying out loud

The camera OPPO spent the money on.

The main sensor is a 50MP f/1.8 unit on a 1/2-inch sensor with optical image stabilisation, shooting 4K at 30fps. OIS is the dividing line in this band. It is the difference between a handheld shot at dusk that is usable and one that is merely acceptable, and a surprising number of phones at this price still leave it out to fund a higher megapixel count that nobody will ever print. This one did not.

The honesty clause: the second rear lens is a 2MP monochrome unit, which is filler. Two genuinely useful cameras beat three where one is decoration, and OPPO has shipped one useful camera and a passenger. The 16MP front camera is a Sony IMX480 at f/2.4, which on specification is an unremarkable but adequate selfie setup.

04 - What it gives up

Three compromises, and one of them is permanent.

There is no NFC. OPPO's own specification page lists it as unsupported, and the independent spec databases agree. In India this bites less than it would in London, because UPI runs on QR codes and works on any phone with a camera. But tap-to-pay on a card, a transit card on your phone, and pairing by tap are all out, and no software update will ever add a radio that was never fitted. If you tap to get through a metro gate every morning, stop reading here.

The memory is a generation behind. Storage is UFS 3.1, which is genuinely good at this price, but the RAM is LPDDR4X rather than LPDDR5X. In daily use this is the least visible of the 3 compromises, and it is the one OPPO clearly chose in order to pay for the battery and the screen.

Nothing has been published about updates. OPPO has been loud about a six-year smoothness certification and completely silent about how many Android versions or how many years of security patches the K14 Plus will get. An update commitment is a specification like any other, and an unstated one is not a point in the phone's favour. We will say so again when the review runs. OPPO's smaller F33 5G shares that silence, and our OPPO F33 5G review weighs it against this phone at about Rs. 1,500 apart.

Price and availability

OPPO has stated launch prices of Rs. 29,999 for 6GB with 128GB, Rs. 32,999 for 8GB with 128GB and Rs. 35,999 for 8GB with 256GB. The first sale is on October 8, with an announced instant bank discount of Rs. 4,000 on day one. Those are launch figures, not street prices: the phone cannot be bought yet, so there is no live retail band to quote and we are not inventing one. Colours are Star White and Solar Orange.

05 - Where it lands

The shortlist it just joined.

At a launch price of Rs. 29,999 the K14 Plus walks into the most crowded part of the Indian market, where the vivo T4 Pro has been the most complete answer for months and where buyers are increasingly deciding on endurance rather than benchmarks. If that is your axis, our best battery life phones from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 30,000 is the shortlist this will be measured against, and the broader best smartphones under Rs. 30,000 guide covers the rest of the field.

Within OPPO's own range it sits above the K14x 5G, which trades on battery and gives up more elsewhere, and well above the K14 Lite, the 4G-only member of the family that launched here a fortnight ago. Our full review follows once the phone is actually on sale.

Launched in India on September 29, 2026, on sale from October 8. An 8,000mAh battery, a stabilised 50MP camera and IP69K protection at a launch price of Rs. 29,999 is a serious offer. The missing NFC is the one compromise you cannot undo later. Judged on published specification. We have not tested this phone.
