vivo T5 5G Review: No Headline, Very Few Mistakes

The Take

The vivo T5 5G does not have a headline number, and that turns out to be its best quality. A 7,050mAh battery in a body 7.99mm thin and 199g, a 144Hz 1.5K AMOLED, IP68 and IP69, a stabilised 50MP camera with a real ultra-wide, and 4K video from both sides, at a base price of Rs. 34,999. It charges at a modest 44W, its update promise is middling, and 6GB of RAM on the base model is a little thin. None of that is a reason to skip it. Buy it if you want a balanced phone around Rs. 35,000, and check the iQOO Z11 first: it is the same phone.

Some phones arrive with a speech. 10,000mAh, a 200MP sensor, a refresh rate with 3 digits. The vivo T5 5G arrived with a list of sensible decisions and no single one of them loud enough to put on a billboard.

That makes it easy to overlook and, for a large number of buyers, the right answer. This is the phone for the person who wants nothing to go wrong: the parent who will keep it 5 years, the commuter who wants a full day and a thin pocket, the buyer who does not want to read a review explaining what they gave up. So this review is short on fireworks, on purpose.

vivo launched the T5 in India in September 2026 at Rs. 34,999 for 6GB + 128GB, Rs. 39,999 for 8GB + 128GB, Rs. 44,999 for 8GB + 256GB and Rs. 49,999 for 12GB + 256GB. It is sold through one major online retailer and vivo's own store, and at that retailer the first 2 versions still list at exactly those launch prices today. With only one major retailer to read, we are not printing a street band, but holding at launch is itself news in a month when most phones have moved up.

01 - What it gets right

7,000mAh that you will not feel in your pocket.

The trilemma in phone design is battery, weight and thickness: improve one and the other two get worse. The T5 does not win any of the three outright. What it does is refuse to lose any of them. 7,050mAh is larger than 88% of the phones we track on sale in India. 199g and 7.99mm are numbers you would expect from a phone with a much smaller cell. That balance is harder to build than a record in any single column, and it is the reason this phone should be easy to live with every single day.

The screen is the next quiet success. A 6.83-inch 1.5K curved AMOLED at 144Hz, which on our index refreshes faster than 89% of the market and is sharper than 71%. On paper, text is crisp and scrolling is smooth, and you do not have to choose between them.

Then the cameras, where vivo made the decision that separates a usable phone from a merely acceptable one. The 50MP Sony main sensor has optical stabilisation, and the second camera is a real 8MP ultra-wide rather than a 2MP placeholder. Both the rear and the 32MP front camera record 4K. That is not common at this price, and it matters to anyone who films more than they photograph.

Finally, IP68 and IP69: immersion and high-pressure water jets. A thin, light phone that also shrugs off a monsoon is a combination worth naming.

Scored from published specifications against the 204 phones we have verified on sale in India as of 3 October 2026. Storage headroom is not rated because there is no card slot to score. A verified subset, not the whole market; PublicBuy has not physically tested these devices.

Put together, the T5 is better specified than 83% of the 204 phones we track on sale in India. Look at the shape of those bars: nothing near the top of the chart, and nothing near the bottom either. That is what a balanced phone looks like when you draw it.

02 - What it gives up

Three small compromises, honestly sized.

Charging. 44W into 7,050mAh is fine rather than fast, and it sits right in the middle of the market. The POCO X8 Power, at about the same money, charges faster than 95% of the market on our index. You will not wait all evening with the vivo, but you will wait longer than you would on several phones nearby.

Updates. Three Android upgrades and 5 years of security patches is a respectable commitment that has stopped being a generous one. POCO promises 4 upgrades and 6 years of patches on the X8 Power, at about the same money. If you plan to keep this phone until it stops getting patches, that difference is a year.

Memory. The base model has 6GB of RAM, and the step up to 8GB costs Rs. 5,000 at launch prices for nothing else but the RAM. For most people 6GB will be enough today. Over 5 years of patches it will feel tighter, and the upgrade is expensive.

On NFC

We could not confirm from two independent sources whether the Indian T5 supports NFC, so we are not claiming it either way. If tap-to-pay with your phone matters to you, check the listing before you buy.

03 - The twin, and the rivals

The same phone, wearing an iQOO badge.

Here is the most useful thing in this review. The vivo T5 5G and the iQOO Z11 are the same hardware: the same dimensions, the same weight, the same chip, the same battery and the same cameras. iQOO is a vivo sub-brand, and the two are sold through different retailers. Two phones do not arrive at identical measurements by accident.

Because the hardware is the same, the badge is not worth paying extra for: check both listings and buy whichever is cheaper, or in stock, on the day you shop.

The phone we would weigh against it from a different family is the POCO X8 Power, which launched at Rs. 35,999 for 8GB + 128GB. We put the two head to head in POCO X8 Power vs vivo T5. The POCO brings a bigger 10,000mAh battery charged faster and a longer update promise; the vivo answers with a far slimmer, lighter body and a faster 144Hz screen. Battery-first buyers should read that piece; everyone else will be happier with the vivo.

Buy the T5 if
  • You want a big battery in a thin, light phone
  • You film video and want 4K from both cameras
  • You want a stabilised main camera and a real ultra-wide
  • You want water protection without a bulky body
  • Fast charging is a priority
  • You want the longest update promise at this price
  • You need more than 6GB of RAM without paying Rs. 5,000 for it

For the other vivo in this family, read our vivo T5x review. For phones a step below this price, our display guide for Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 30,000 and battery guide for the same band rank the field.

The Verdict

Buy it. The vivo T5 5G is a phone of no extremes and very few mistakes: a 7,050mAh battery in a 199g, 7.99mm body, a 144Hz 1.5K AMOLED, IP68 and IP69, a stabilised main camera with a real ultra-wide, and 4K video front and rear, at a base price that has held at Rs. 34,999. Its 44W charging, three-and-five update promise and 6GB base memory are honest compromises, not hidden ones. It is the safe recommendation at this price for anyone who does not want to think about their phone again. Before you buy, compare it with the iQOO Z11, because it is the same phone and whichever is cheaper on the day is the one to buy. Judged on published specification, not on a hands-on test.

Better specified than 83% of the 204 phones we track on sale in India. 89th percentile on refresh, 88th on battery, and nothing near the bottom of the chart. Not every good phone needs a headline.
